Our Impact

9 years
We opened in January 2016 and have served survivors for almost nine years.

1st full continuum of care in Iowa for human-trafficking survivors. We provide crisis care, long-term restoration, transitional housing and after-care.

Introduced crisis care in 2024. More than 45% of women who apply for our program need immediate safety.

Mission

Dorothy’s House is a safe place for the practice of life for those whose lives have been interrupted by human trafficking, exploitation and prostitution.

Key Services Provided

It takes support, a safe space, resources and love to recover a life from human trafficking. We are the first complete continuum of care for human-trafficking survivors in Iowa, providing crisis care, long-term restoration, transitional housing and after-care.

Key Audiences Served

Dorothy’s House serves women 18 and older who have been trafficked, exploited or worked in the sex trade. Co-occurring conditions we see are homelessness, adversity in childhood, chronic mental health conditions, physical and emotional harm, abuse, neglect, torture and more.

What are the most immediate needs to support your organization?

More than 85% of our funding goes toward staff salaries and benefits. We are proud to pay our team a competitive wage and creative benefits. Our team are missionaries first who walk alongside women on their healing journeys every day. We are blessed to have very little debt, and the remainder of funding goes toward immediate needs, including food, clothing, utilities, the operation of three vehicles, communications/computers, food, clothing and basic personal and household needs. Every dollar helps support the needs of the women in our care, and your generosity means the world to us.
